What I walked into
A 2023 site for a buy-now-pay-later platform, built on Gulp, SCSS and PHP.
Its assets weighed 43 MB, and one 3840×2160 flat-gradient background was 7 MB by itself.
What I changed, and why
Same design, none of the code
Rewritten on Next 16 and Feature-Sliced Design with the original design and copy, and none of the 2023 code carried over.
Assets through sharp
43 MB of assets became 707 KB, the 7 MB background included.
Pins from a projection
The 30 coverage pins come from a plate-carrée projection fitted against five unambiguous coastlines, so a correction is an edit to latitude and longitude.
Every accordion deleted
The legal page’s 146 clauses became a sticky rail beside both documents in full, findable with Ctrl+F and linkable.
The pins come from a fitted projection instead of being eyeballed.
Where it landed
The platform’s site runs on Next 16 with the same design and copy, and its assets went from 43 MB to 707 KB.
The map is data rather than artwork, and the legal documents read in full beside a sticky rail of 146 clauses.
